Not sure if I got a bad unit or what, but one of the 6.5″ drivers had a scratchy sounding voice coil and “kazoo” like vocals after only a week of being powered by a HiFonics Goliath rated at 125 watts RMS (producing more like 200 watts RMS on the bench)… well within their rated operating range. Furthermore, I had them crossed over at 160hz @ 6db/octave… which should have been more than high enough to protect them from over excursion.

Have since replaced the woofers with a pair of Audiobahn AMD60Q’s, which I have seen visual evidence that they will survive being driven by 800 watts, low pass, free air. If these don’t work… nothing will.

I’m using the Lanzar crossovers, and that’s it at this stage. (Using factory tweeters to avoid having to fabricate a pod to mount that Lanzar tweets, which were much larger than anticipated for a 1″ dome.) I did test drive the tweeters to asses their sound quality, and would have been happy to utilize them in the install if they were a better fit.

Just my $.02… hope everyone else has better luck than I did.
